News when you want it with Bloomberg News now. I'm Nathan Harger. And I'm Alexis Christopher. Here are the stories we're following today. Well, Alexis, we begin with the aftermath of the elections. The Republican Party's defeat in the midterm elections has led to finger pointing, and beneath it is a bigger fight. After a decade of Trump who gets to define what comes next. Vice president JD Vance, a leading 2028 contender, blame the Iran war, living costs and U.S.

Israel ties for the Republican losses. President Trump reacted to Vance's statement. Well, I think it's largely true because it drove the gasoline up a little bit short term, and probably that's probably true. But at the same time, if I had to do again, I'd have to do it again, because long term, uh, it's the only answer. You can't let Iran have a nuclear war. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a possible 2028 Republican presidential candidate, says the result was enormous.

Last night, we witnessed to call it a wave I don't think would be fully accurate. It's the political equivalent of a meteor strike that went all around the United States. Blue states, red states, everything in between. And the one state that was able to hold the line and withstand that is right here in the free state of Florida. After polls showed voters ranked government corruption near the top of their list of concerns, governor DeSantis demanded that Congress outlaw stock market trading by lawmakers and extended the prohibition to the executive branch.

And Charon Oil tumbled almost 9% as investors bet that a Democratic sweep in the midterms could accelerate efforts to end the war in the Middle East. Libya Porgy jazz, held senior director for strategy and risk advisory, says the prospects of renewed U.S. strikes on Iran still remain high. I think the one thing that we do know about Trump is that certainly we cannot be reacting, uh, to his rhetoric, which changes almost on a daily basis.

We still rate a very high scenario that Trump could go rogue and ultimately, uh, take up strikes against Iran again, and that is simply because there is really nothing to lose at the moment. Um, and there is very little also Congress could do right now. Jazz holds Libya party there. The prospect of easing tensions has pushed Brent down almost 20% this week. Alexis, a key senator, is demanding a bold agenda before backing Senator Chuck Schumer for a majority leader.

Bloomberg's Amy Morris reports from Washington. Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen says Democrats should target corporate interests and that they should not be committing to their next majority leader before they have that conversation. Van Hollen says the party needs to reflect a more populist vision and address issues like an economy that serves billionaires and big corporations. Schumer has expressed confidence that he will retain the party's top post.

Van Hollen also tells Bloomberg he's kicking the tires on a possible 2028 presidential bid. In Washington, Amy Morris, Bloomberg radio. All right. Thanks, Amy. There are still some key undecided races this morning. Bloomberg's John Tucker is at the Bloomberg election desk. John, let's go to north to Alaska. Uh, just 637 votes. I'm counting with my toes and fingers. Alexis, that separates the Senate count as there was 75.5% of the vote counted so far.

It's the Democrat, Mary Peltz, who is leading incumbent Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. Now, Alaska, you got to keep this in mind. It accepts absentee ballots up to 15 days after Election Day. And this state uses ranked choice voting. If no candidate gets at least 50%, they're not there yet. It would then go to a ranked choice runoff. Bottom line we may not know who won in Alaska until closer to Thanksgiving. All right, now to Mississippi with over 95% of the vote counted there.

The Democrat Scott column leads incumbent Republican Senator City Hyde-Smith by 1038 votes. The state's going to count all mail in ballots postmarked by November 3rd and received within five days of the election. Provisional ballots. They are provided to people whose eligibility to vote is uncertain. They are also allowed to be counted for up to five business days after Election Day. Now, if he maintains his lead, Cologne would be the first Democrat elected to the U.S.

Senate in Mississippi in nearly four decades, as well as the state's first black senator since reconstruction. In New York, I'm John Tucker Bloomberg Radio. All right, John, thank you. The results are not only in from the election. We're also getting the latest numbers. More than 27 million people watched prime time news coverage across the six largest TV networks, according to Nielsen data. That was a 22% increase from the midterms four years ago.

NBC was the most watched channel at 6.8 million viewers, with ABC following with 5.1 million. Fox news had just over 4 million viewers, about 45% fewer than four years ago, when it led all networks with an audience of more than 7.4 million. And that's news when you want it with Bloomberg News now. I'm Alexis Crystal.
