Hackers stole $6.3 billion from crypto exchange Binance in the biggest heist of the crypto industry, and the latest in a slew of security incidents afflicting the financial sector. Bloomberg Digital Finance reporter Emily Nicole says while this could discourage people from entering the crypto market, some say this is also part of what you get when you deal with crypto.

That comes with its own level of risk, but also the promise of a high reward. That's kind of what you get when you buy into crypto. You have to be willing to make that risk reward tradeoff. And that's kind of what people are saying right now. It's like saying, well, yes, this could be a thing that turns people off from joining crypto. It might turn off institutions from wanting to deploy in it in huge size. Bloomberg's Emily Nicole Binance suspended withdrawals today.

It pledged to cover all losses and said about $3 billion of the assets had been frozen on blockchain networks and that withdrawals are expected to resume Sunday. Binance shares are up 3/10 of a percent Bitcoin impacted by this more than 1.5% lower tech stocks continue their slide as disappointing earnings from Amazon and Intel intensified investors fears over the sustainability of the AI boom. Amazon shares now more than 2% lower off session lows, after it had erased $142 billion in value when the company reported greater capital spending than anticipated, and the slowest growth in the core e-commerce business in three years.

Intel shares are 29% lower after its revenue forecast missed. Analyst estimates hurt by demand for PC processors and supply chain problems with data center components. The company projects that the PC market slump will persist through at least the first half of next year, and Intel is also creating the biggest drag on the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, which is now nearly 7% lower. Foxconn CEO Yung Lu tells Bloomberg that the demand for AI is very big and very real.

We're all facing similar problems Because this time this new industry is coming so big and so fast, so that the whole industry will have to see no problem. Foxconn CEO Yung Liu was on Bloomberg TV. The company is looking at a partnership with OpenAI to help it capture half the AI server market in the next two years. Foxconn shares are 1% lower. ExxonMobil and Chevron beat profit expectations as conflicts in the Persian Gulf and Russia roil to energy markets, driving refining results to record highs.

Yeah, it really was all about refining, which is often the overlooked part of the oil industry, is the business of taking crude oil and turning it into finished products like gasoline and diesel. Bloomberg's Kevin Crowley ExxonMobil shares nearly 1.5% higher. Chevron shares nearly 2% higher, and oil climbed on worries that the U.S. may resume strikes against Iran. Traders have begun to brace for potential escalation as President Trump has repeatedly threatened to restart airstrikes after next week's midterm elections.

Crude oil is 2% higher now. WTI topping $104 a barrel. Brent crude more than $117 a barrel. And diesel fuel averaging about $6.32 per gallon. We do check markets for you all day long here at Bloomberg. The S&P 500 is down 1.6%. Nasdaq down 2.7%. And the Dow is down three quarters of a percent. The ten year Treasury yield at 4.94%. The two year yield at 4.6% and the 30 year Treasury yield at 5.32%. Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin says gradual interest rate hikes makes sense at a time when inflation is high and unemployment is low.

He said during an interview on Sirius XM radio that a gradual approach is a good way to go. President Trump has rescheduled campaign rallies in a pair of critical Midwestern states. He had canceled those appearances, but will now visit Iowa and Kansas for back to back rallies on Sunday. The Republican National Committee initially said in canceling those rallies that Trump would do tell the rallies instead to reach more voters.

Trump is set to be in Florida for a rally tonight. Early voting is significantly outpacing the last midterm election, with millions more Americans casting ballots in advance, particularly in states hosting competitive Senate races. Advanced voting has increased more than 30% from four years ago in Maine, Michigan, North Carolina and Kansas. It's up 83% in South Carolina. More than 43 million Americans had voted early in person or returned mail ballots.

That's nearly 10 million more than in 2022. Pope Leo the 14th is the first pope in history to vote in a U.S. election. The Vatican says the pope, who was born in Chicago, has cast his mail in ballot ahead of election day, citing his long standing belief in civic participation.
