美国财长贝森特与中国副总理何立峰会晤讨论AI安全

At tonight in the future of everything, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessett met with Chinese Vice Premier He Lee Fang to talk about AI safety and who is accountable when things go wrong. NBC's Ally Canal has more on what went down. Ally, [snorts]

hey there, Gotti. There does seem to be more movement when it comes to the US and China continuing a dialogue around AI safety. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant spoke to CNBC this morning and he said the two countries plan to meet again in about two months time to further those AI discussions. Secretary Bessant met with his Chinese counterpart yesterday at the JP Morgan building. I was there. I saw the arrivals, the departures, and then after the meeting, Besson spoke to a small group of reporters.

He told us that the two countries talked about a notification mechanism which would essentially be used to alert each country about any substantial AI threats especially as it relates to national security. So that's one thing they discussed. Of course, there's still more that needs to be talked about here because both countries there is some common ground when it comes to the threats of AI, but they have very different opinions on how to actually regulate this technology, especially as it continues to evolve so rapidly here.

Uh, of course, we have an upcoming meeting with President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping where AI is expected to be on the agenda among many other topics. So certainly a lot more to come when we talk about AI safety, when we talk about AI regulation, but to see the US and China, two of the biggest world uh leaders in the technology actually engaging in some sort of discussion does seem to be an encouraging sign.
