Bloomberg Money Minute: US Inflation Cools as AI Stocks Rally
This is a Bloomberg money minute. Inflation coming in exactly as expected last month. Overall consumer prices are up 3.4% from a year ago. That's down from 3.5% in June. Getting help from a temporary drop in gas prices. That rather tame report easing concerns on Wall Street about the fed having to raise interest rates when it meets next month. After strong earnings this morning from cloud computing giant Core Weave and server maker Super Microcomputer, that's led to a rally in chipmakers.
Another AI related stocks. Right now, though, the Dow is down just a tiny fraction, the tech heavy Nasdaq half a percent higher, the S&P up a fifth of a percent, and oil is pretty much flat at $83 a barrel. ESPN reports former Disney CEO Bob Iger and investor Josh Kushner, brother of the president's son in law Jared Kushner, will pay $12 billion to buy the Los Angeles Lakers. That's $2 billion more than what Marc Walter paid for the same team that happened just ten months ago.
