Iran must be understood by mister Trump and those who seek to bully us that we are ready for dialogue and diplomacy and negotiations without accepting the language of force. Well, let's get more from Paul Wallace. Bloomberg's managing Asia for The Middle East and Africa. Paul, what else then did Masood Pesachianz say, and and how does it bode for the prospect for any negotiations? Hi, Stephen. Well, he did struck this defiant tone, and it was a bit of a contrast from what Donald Trump and the Americans were saying only twenty four hours earlier.

Yes. Trump in his, speech to the general assembly did talk about the possibility of annihilating the the ruling regime in Iran. But at the same time, he spoke about a deal, and then two of his main envoys, Steve Witkow and, Jad Kushner, his son-in-law, had a meeting with the Iranian foreign minister, Bassar Aghchi, and they came out of that, the Americans that is, and and Trump sort of echoed this, sounding very optimistic and effusive and essentially saying, like, you know, we were signaling that we were on the road back on the road of diplomacy and towards deal a at some point.

You know, Iran didn't make any comments like that. In the aftermath of that meeting, it sort of said that, its foreign minister had just laid down laid reiterated terms. And, you know, in his speech to the UN sort of, again, sort of, reiterated that. The Iranians want The US to lift a US naval blockade. That's sort of the first thing they're looking for before the sides will go to go back to negotiations. And Iran has been saying that for over a month now, and they're not budging on that.

Yes. Their economy is hurting a lot because of that blockade. Inflation's almost at 90%, and the real is is depreciating rapidly. But they are sticking to that line that unless The US removes that naval blockade, then nothing can happen, and they will remain, in in a deadlock with, you know, bouts of hostilities, attacks on ships, or or or worse, continuing. And indeed, it was attack on a ship in the Strait Of Wormuz yesterday that was one of the main drivers that pushed oil prices higher, but we've also got signs that The US is feeling the pension and could ban diesel exports.

I mean, that's been driving diesel prices higher. Yeah. And it's quite remarkable that we've got to the point where it's very, very possible that The US will ban diesel exports there. The US is a major diesel exporter. The US oil industry is against this, and there are many arguments, you know, sort of that would that would make the US government think twice about this. I mean, you may push up gasoline prices, petrol prices if you ban diesel diesel exports because refiners in The US might ramp up gasoline exports if they can't if they can't do that with diesel, for example.

But, basically, you know, the background is if you zoom them out a bit, we've got the midterms on November 3. Iran is looming over those in a big, big way, and Iran the Iran war is hurting Trump and his Republican party, and some Republican politicians are desperate to do something to get diesel down before those midterms happen.
