This is a significant threat from president Trump when it comes to Oman, saying that The US would be willing to bomb them if they, quote, get in the way, in his words. Keep in mind, though, this comes on the heels of this weekend when we heard confirmation from Iran and Oman that they have established what's being called shipping maps that would help to guide ships through the Strait Of Hormuz. The context to that being that Iran had been growing increasingly frustrated with ships using The US coordinated route that would hug the coast of Oman and get them further away from the coast of Iran.

There had been talk about maybe ships using that middle passage as it's known, but concerns also there about whether or not there are still mines that have been laid in that route. I will say that frustration with Oman has been building in this administration at this point for months. Back in June, before I headed to the g seven summit, a senior administration official who briefed us ahead of the trip said that The US was frustrated between talks with Iran and Oman, instead touting partnerships with other regional allies like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, The UAE being more palatable partners for The US to work with.
