Bloomberg Audio Studios podcasts radio news. Good morning. I'm Karen Moscow and I'm Alexis Christopherus. Here are the stories we're following today.

Well, Alexis, we begin with the aftermath of the elections. The Republican party's defeat in the midterm elections has led to fingerpointing. And beneath it is a bigger fight after a decade of Trump. Who gets to define what comes next? Vice President JD Vance, a leading 2028 contender, blamed the Iran war, living costs, and USIsrael ties for the Republican losses. President Trump reacted to Vance's statement.

I think it's largely true because it drove the gasoline up a little bit short-term and probably that's uh probably it's true, but at the same time, if I had it to do again, I'd have to do it again because long term uh it's the only answer. You can't let Iran have a nuclear weapon. Florida Governor Ronda Santis, a possible 2028 Republican presidential candidate, says the result was enormous.

Last night, we witnessed, to call it a wave, I don't think would be fully accurate. It's the political equivalent of a meteor strike that went all around the United States, blue states, red states, everything in between. And the one state that was able to hold the line and withstand that is right here in the free state of Florida. After polls showed voters rank government corruption near the top of their list of concerns, Governor DeSantis demanded that Congress outlaw stock market trading by lawmakers and extended the prohibition to the executive branch.

And Karen oil tumbled almost 9% as investors bet that a Democratic sweep in the midterms could accelerate efforts to end the war in the Middle East. Livia Pagy, JSH held senior director for strategy and risk advisory says the prospects of renewed US strikes on Iran still remain high. I think the one thing that we do know about Trump is that certainly we cannot be reacting uh to his rhetoric which changes almost on a daily basis.

We still rate a very high scenario that Trump could go rogue and ultimately uh take up strikes against Iran again. And that is simply because there is really nothing to lose at the moment. Um and there is very little also Congress could do right now.

JS Held's Livia Pagy there. The prospect of easing tensions has pushed Brent down almost 20% this week.

Alexis a key senator is demanding a bold agenda before backing Senator Chuck Schumer for a majority leader. Bloomberg's Amy Morris reports from Washington. Maryland Senator Chris Van Holland says Democrats should target corporate interests and that they should not be committing to their next majority leader before they have that conversation. Van Holland says the party needs to reflect a more populist vision and address issues like an economy that serves billionaires and big corporations.

Schumer has expressed confidence that he will retain the party's top post. Van Holland also tells Bloomberg he's kicking the tires on a possible 2028 presidential bid. In Washington, Amy Morris, Bloomberg Radio. All right, thanks Amy. There are still some key undecided races this morning. Bloomberg's John Tucker is at the Bloomberg election desk. John, good morning.

Let's go to North to Alaska. Uh just 637 votes. Yeah, I'm counting with my toes and fingers. Alexis, that separates the Senate candidates there with 75 and a half% of the vote counted so far. It's the Democrat Mary Pela who is leading incumbent Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. Now Alaska, you got to keep this in mind. It accepts absentee ballots up to 15 days after election day. And this state uses ranked choice voting.

If no candidate gets at least 50%. They're not there yet. It would then go to a ranked choice runoff. Bottom line, we may not know who won in Alaska until closer to Thanksgiving. All right. Now to Mississippi with over 95% of the vote counted there. The Democrat Scott Colom leads incumbent Republican Senator Cindy Height Smith by a,038 votes. The state's going to count all mail-in ballots postmarked by November 3rd and received within 5 days of the election.

Provisional ballots, they are provided to people whose uh eligibility to vote is uncertain. They're also allowed to be counted for up to five business days after election day. Now, if he maintains his lead, Cologne would be the first Democrat elected to the US Senate in Mississippi in nearly four decades, as well as the state's first black senator since reconstruction. In New York, I'm John Tucker, Bloomberg Radio.

All right, John, thank you. Well, the results are not only in from the election, we're also getting the latest TV numbers. More than 27 million people watch prime time news coverage across the six largest TV networks, according to Neielson data. That was a 22% increase from the midterms four years ago. NBC was the most watched channel at 6.8 million viewers with ABC following with 5.1 million. Fox News had just over 4 million viewers, about 45% fewer than four years ago when it led all networks with an audience of more than 7.4 million.

So did the world's richest man. Elon Musk, Tesla, and SpaceX each dropped more than 3%. That wiped out nearly 130 billion in combined market value. Musk was a prominent Republican donor during the midterms.

Well, overall the broader markets, Karen, fared a little bit better than Musk's companies. The Dow surged more than 1,500 points or about 3%. The S&P 500 jumped 1.6%. The Nasdaq rose almost 1 and a.5%. Yana Kirkland is chief investment officer at Schroers.

I think the fact that you've had quite a decisive result is helpful to the market because it removes some some of the tail risks that might have been coming forward. So in that sense there's clarity uh and so I think you're seeing a bit of relief on that and then we'll be back to focusing on earnings and rates and the outlook for inflation.

That's Schroeder's Yana Kirkland there. Checking the futures right now. It's a mixed picture. S&P futures little change. NASDAQ futures though down about 610 of a percent. Karen

Alexis chip stocks did not participate in yesterday's rally. They fell more than 3%. The sell-off is spreading overseas. Samsung Electronics and SK Heinix both tumbled more than 7% in South Korea on concern that tighter US data center regulation following the Democrats midterm sweep would hurt demand for their memory chips. At Yard Denny, president at Yenni Research says constraints to the AI trade could have upsides.

It hasn't become a total debacle for the AI trade. I mean, the hyperscalers actually did pretty well. And I guess the thought process uh that the market went through is if uh we have now political constraints on the AI buildout if we have push back from communities that don't want it and if we have the bond market being more discriminating about who gets access to capital to fund the uh the buildout that means there is there are now speed bumps in the AI trade and that's that's a positive development

and that was Edard Denny president at Yard Denny Research Hypers Scale. ers Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple each gained more than 5% yesterday.

And chip stocks may come under pressure today once again following Qualcomm's earnings results. That stock down more than 10% here in the pre-market. The company gave a lackluster profit forecast, citing a broad-based increase in costs for components and manufacturing. Angelo Zeno is a senior equity analyst at CFRA.
