This is Bloomberg money minute. Companies stepped up hiring in September, another sign that the economy may be picking up. Private sector payrolls rose by 90,000 last month, according to ADP research. More than half of the gain was in education and health services. The government's employment report is due out on Friday. Meantime, a positive inflation surprise. The Federal Reserve's preferred measure of inflation is out and it shows up.

Prices rose 3.4% in the past year, which is slower than what economists were expecting. This is giving a boost to stock futures, and Tinder is launching a new feature called Group Hangouts, designed to take the pressure off one on one dates. It's the latest effort to attract younger users who have otherwise grown jaded with dating apps. The feature builds on the success of earlier initiatives from Tinder, such as double dates and in-person events, which also attempt to provide a low pressure way for users to connect in real life outside of the app.
