特朗普开启访华行程，中东局势推升油价与美债收益率

News when you wanted with Bloomberg News. Now I'm Nathan Hager. President Trump is hailing his, quote, great friendship with Chinese President XI Jinping as his state visit gets underway at the white House. Bloomberg's Tyler Kendall is there. This is, of course, a relatively positive reception by President Trump to Chinese President XI Jinping, calling this a, quote, important moment for America as this marks the Chinese president's first state visit here to Washington since 2015.

President Trump went on to say that, quote, working together, President XI and I have made tremendous strides on issues facing our two countries. He touted the Board of Trade as well as market access for American farmers. We should say that the US is pushing China to increase its agricultural purchases, as so far, Beijing has only made good on about half of its commitments for American soybeans, and also limited progress when it comes to land promises to purchase nearly 7 billion worth of additional agricultural goods.

Bloomberg's Tyler Kendall reports. President Trump said they'll discuss pressing issues including security, technology and artificial intelligence. In his opening remarks, President XI said his visit is for friendship and cooperation. He also announced a bit of panda diplomacy. He says two pandas will arrive in Atlanta in the coming days, as what he calls envoys of friendship ahead of President Xi's visit. CNN Now and Politico say they were turned away from the white House today, despite a federal judge's order last night to temporarily restore their access.

The outlets are asking for an immediate hearing with US District Judge Timothy Kelly. He's ordered the white House to respond by 1230 this afternoon. Wall Street time. Oil is surging as Iran threatens an expansion of the war in the Middle East if the US resumes attacks. This follows defiant speech from Iran's president and the first indirect talks in months between the US and Iran on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Bloomberg's Paul Wallace has more from Dubai. The Iranians were pretty clear after that meeting that, uh, between a Russian coffin and Kushner, uh, that things hadn't changed much. You know, they didn't sort of, uh, get too excited in the aftermath of that meeting. They sort of said that all I did was reiterate, uh, Iran's lines, Iran's stance. And, you know, number one on that list, pretty much, is that the US has to lift its naval blockade of Iran.

Uh, and then the president. Uh, yesterday in his UN speech, did that to Bloomberg's Paul Wallace in Dubai, checking crude prices. Right now, Brent is above 07 a barrel, a gain of more than 4%. West Texas Intermediate is more than 4% higher as well, trading just right around $96. And that is adding to a bond selloff that has Treasury yields at more than two decade highs. Right now, the ten year is up four basis points at 5.15%, the 30 years at 5.44, a level that hasn't been seen since 2004.

And stocks are under pressure. The S&P 500 is down 6/10 of 1%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is three quarters of a percent lower, and the Nasdaq Composite is leading the declines, down 8/10 of 1%. Philadelphia Fed President Anna Paulson says more rate hikes may be needed to bring inflation to the central bank's 2% target. Looking ahead, if conditions evolve, as I expect, some modest further tightening may be warranted.

As always, I'll be watching the data and listening closely to what businesses and workers are telling me. And a Paulson spoke at a fintech conference hosted by the Philadelphia Fed. New York Fed Chief John Williams told an event in London earlier today there could be another rate hike by the end of the year with high energy prices, and I demand adding to inflation risk. Williams says the economy has shown remarkable resilience and the labor market remains solid.

We saw more signs of that this morning. In the latest weekly jobless claims. They fell to 197,000 last week, the lowest level since July. PepsiCo is raising some of its prices months after promising to make snacks more affordable. Sources tell Bloomberg. Grocery sized bags of Doritos, Ruffles and Sun Chips will go up by low to mid-single digits late this year or early next. A spokesperson says those bags will still be cheaper than they were when they cut prices earlier this year.

Right now, PepsiCo shares are being cut by about 2/10 of 1%. Shares of Go Daddy are soaring by 7.5%. The Financial Times reports the web domain provider has gotten a takeover offer from Gen Digital, the company behind Norton 360 antivirus software. The FTC says the deal would roll up a number of legacy software brands. Gen digital right now is down nearly 7%. Oracle is lower by 5%. The cloud provider sent a force majeure notice to the company it's working with on Project Jupiter, a massive data center in New Mexico.

That's in case it doesn't come online on time. Bloomberg Tech host Ed Ludlow has more on that. This is a specific project where there's an 8 billion loan backed by multiple banks. In this case, again, it's a unit of Blue Owl Capital. That's the developer. Um, and it is a site that, uh, has already experienced some kind of like delays and issues. So the market is paying attention and the lenders opposing questions. Bloomberg's Ed Ludlow reports that site is due to go online in two years.

New York is suing Poly Market for allegedly running an illegal gambling operation. Attorney General Letitia James his office announced that today, saying the state will be seeking fines, restitution and forfeiture of all illegal gains. It is the latest legal clash for an industry that lets users bet on just about anything. No immediate comment on this from Poly Market. That's news when you want it with Bloomberg News now.
