You think street traffic is bad at UN General Assembly Week in New York? Why not just add a bunch of headache at the airport on top of it?

No, thank you.

A lot of dignitaries and their supporting staff are trying to make their way to New York for the meetings uh this week and that could indeed uh be a bit of a complicating factor. Of course, President Trump also is going to be heading to New York this afternoon. He's got a big week ahead of him. Uh Joe, we expect he could be meeting with leaders of the Gulf States with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zalinsky, but he's going to start this week start today meeting with the mayor of New York City, Zaramani. of course a member of the democratic socialists of America as the president has often criticized socialists and communist as he says they are.

He's going to be sitting down with one at Gracie Man.

I wasn't sure they were still pals uh anymore but this the optics will be interesting here and we will likely see it because of local news coverage not dependent upon the White House press corps that'll be a little bit later on in the afternoon. Uh but look to Kayle's point this could be the most important week geopolitically speaking of his second term when you think of the meetings he has Macron today onto Zalinsky and back to Washington where he's got the summit with President Xi couple of themes we'll be going straight through them both of course the war with Iran artificial intelligence is another one and ahead of our conversation uh with our political panel and a bit later on this hour Congressman Don Byer Tyler Kendall is in New York Bloomberg's Washington correspondent charged with covering the president's trip to ANGA and joins us live from world headquarters in New York.

Uh Tyler, the speech is tomorrow, right? And we will see that because the UN will uh obviously have its own cameras in the room there, but what's the president's goal at this United Nations? He spoke last year more about the teleprompter uh and the escalator than I think in many cases policy. What's on the agenda? Well, at this point, Joe, there are so many different conflicts that we know President Trump is going to be looking to make some sort of momentum or progress in.

Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but just look at the bilateral meetings that he has teed up. Uh, as you mentioned, on the public schedule today, a closed press meeting with the French president, Emanuel Macron, as we wait to see what sort of response we could get from Europe in terms of of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Zalinsky himself says that he will have some time with President Trump tomorrow.

We're also expecting him to meet with uh Middle East regional leaders, potentially even from Saudi Arabia or Iran itself as President Trump seemed to suggest in an interview that he would be willing to meet with the Iranian president after the US took the rare step of uh issuing visas to Iranian officials to come to the UN this week to discuss dialogue. I'd also point out that uh he said to meet with the interim Venezuelan president Deli Rodriguez who is also here.

So it is a jammed pack agenda but perhaps looming over everything is that we are getting closer and closer to those talks on Thursday between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. And there's so many threads that we can pull on that connect these all together whether that be AI or energy or the conflict in the Middle East.

Indeed. And of course, ahead of those talks on Thursday, the Treasury Secretary Scott Besson had talks in New York this past weekend with his Chinese counterpart. Tyler, do we have a sense of what they accomplished or is this another case of talking just to talk?

Well, it's interesting because it depends on which officials we're listening to. We got really positive remarks from the US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessant, who said uh that they made progress in these talks. We heard from Chinese state media saying that they were constructive and uh that they had agreed to keep talking that they were going to have this dialogue on artificial intelligence as one example. But then we had the US trade representative Jameson Greer on Bloomberg television earlier today and he seemed to downplay the idea that there would be significant progress this week.

He said that the goal is stability but he added in part that it would be quote naive to say US and China negotiators have full trust in each other. He also downplayed the idea that we will get an extension of the US China trade truce, saying there's a lot of time between now and November 10th when it's set to expire. So, a lot of different uh aspects here, but for now, they are talking and it seems that this weekend went well enough because we finally got that confirmation from the Chinese government that Xi Jinping will indeed come to Washington.

Rick of course Stonecourt Capital Partner and Republican strategist Jeannie Democratic analyst and democracy visiting fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's Ash Center.

Rick, I'll come to you first as Joe uh characterized it and perhaps uh rightly so. This is a big week for President Trump. Do you see it as potentially the biggest one of his term? How much is riding on the next couple of days? Yeah, obviously uh when you array the various people that he's going to meet with uh you would think, wow, what opportunity is in front of us, but then when you think about what's probably going to be the outcomes, you think, oh, this is going to be a flat week.

We're not we're going to be here Friday saying, "What happened?" Nothing. Um so, uh yeah, I mean, not likely to get any kind of an agreement out of the Iranians, you know, from a chance meeting in in New York. Uh you're going to mix a message with the uh with G. I mean, like Donald Trump's been campaigning against communism

since the day Mandani was elected and he's going to meet Mandani and they're going to have a bromance. Uh, so like what is the Republican party supposed to do? Here we go to Dallas. We have this big convention. It's all about, you know, not letting the communists take over America AND HERE COME THE COMMUNISTS. UH, so I I

He also isn't a communist. He's a socialist.

Republicans are like scratching their head going like, "What are we supposed to be doing here?" So, who's this good for, Genie? The mayor obviously might get some points for this. Or will he? U We've talked a lot about Strange Bed Fellows. We knew at one point they were pals. Do they both have something to gain here?

I think so. But I'll tell you, the local press here, much of it is speculating that the bromance may be a little chillier this visit. Of course, that's speculation. We don't know. But it may be chillier than it has been in their last couple of meetings. You know, obviously this is this meeting is coming amidst the Jewish holidays as we see Benjamin Netanyahu coming to speak at the UN, not expected to meet with President Trump.

And yet, Mayor Manni famously argued that he would think about arresting and not allowing Netanyahu in New York City. He backed off of that. Um, so his um, you know, he's going to have a lot of pressure from his side. Donald Trump likewise is going to have a lot of pressure from his side. You know, somebody asked me and I think it's a great question. Hakeim Jeff must be pulling his hair out
