This is Bloomberg Businessweek daily reporting from the magazine that helps global leaders stay ahead with insight on the people, companies, and trends shaping today's complex economy, plus global business, finance and tech news as it happens. Bloomberg Businessweek daily with Carol Massar and Tim Stent event live on Bloomberg Radio, Television and Bloomberg Originals. Yes, indeed. Everybody, this is Bloomberg Businessweek daily.

I know, I know what you're thinking about. What what was the word for? I just can't believe it's Friday. I know it's and it's a shortened holiday, um, trading week. I'm also thinking about the trade. I. And I thought you were thinking also. That's 25 years, um, since the attacks on the World Trade Center. 9/11. Um, I was thinking about it. My daughter wasn't born. My mom was. Wasn't born. Excuse me? My mom was, like, just about a quarter.

How long ago? That was about a quarter of Americans alive today were born after 9/11. Yeah. Where were you? And I know of it. I was a senior in high school that Tuesday morning. Um, and my mom called me, uh, just absolutely panicked. It was. I was in California, so I was three hours behind. Very early in the morning. Wondering where you were at. Right. Yeah. And more. Yeah. You were. You were down. You were in lower Manhattan.

Not supposed to be there. Filled in for a guest. Came in in the morning. I usually in about four in the morning. And, um, Monica Bertrand, who works for Bloomberg, she, um, called in sick and they're like, okay, we need to go down to the New York Stock Exchange. So I went to cover it and, uh, yeah, I remember the first tower being hit thinking, um, like many of us, it's a small plane. Like something random didn't make sense.

And then, obviously, um, as the Pentagon got hit and as a second tower, like, you obviously knew something much more serious. And we hunkered down at the exchange until around 11 a.m. in the morning. Um, and they kept kind of pushing us lower and lower, um, like off the of the floor and so on and so forth. But it was crazy. It was, it was a you were able to make it back to across we walked all the way up from lower Manhattan and then eventually over to the West Side.

I got home on a ferry. I lived, you know, just across from lower Manhattan. But I mean, you know, you walked out of the exchange and it was just like gray rain. You walked a couple of blocks. And we all always remember, though, it was a gorgeous fall day or September day, not quite technically fall. Um, but you walked a few blocks and it was just the gray ash and everything, uh, coming down. So, um. Yeah. Yeah. And I think New Yorkers think they're invincible.

I think we all. Yeah. We're just realized how vulnerable we can be. Yeah. And it's just, I mean, the memories of that day come back to me. They come back to so many different people. We're gonna actually have some people join us in the 4 p.m. hour. In the 3 p.m. hour today, Mike Goodell, an NYPD detective sergeant who was actually buried alive under the collapse of one of the buildings down in lower Manhattan on on 9/11.

And then a little later in the program, Joe Daniels is stopping by. He's the former president, CEO of the National September 11th Memorial and Museum. And remember, it's his job. He's the guy who. Mhm. Who says, you know, there's so many Americans who will not have lived through this. We need to keep this alive for them to understand what what happened on that day and how it changed that. You go through that museum and, um, it's it's, uh, very, very moving, to say the least.

So is the memorial in a big way. So we are going to, uh, think of all those folks who lost their lives and people who even in afterwards in terms of the cleanup and health conditions. So anyway, we are thinking about a lot of families and a lot of folks that, uh, we know certainly around the United States, uh, on this Friday, November, not in November, September 11th. All right. Um, having said that, that is top of mind.

So too is what's going on in the markets. It's been an interesting week, uh, if you will, uh, a couple of inflation reports. So we're talking a lot about what the Fed's going to do next week. Yeah. Also, um, we're going to kind of get an idea of perpetual futures and how Kalki is thinking about moving from prediction markets into more areas of, you know, so-called mainstream finance. It is just keep moving closer and closer, don't they really do.

Yeah. I spent years at CME. He's now with Cal Shi. He's going to be joining us. He's the chief risk officer. He's joining us uh in about 20 minutes. And I'm going to say one of the things we talked about with Randy Levine of the Yankees yesterday is just how sports brought together everybody after nine over 11, um, we're going to stay on the sports team, uh, and talk a little bit about, uh, the NFL season, which got underway this week.

Riddle Williams is going to be back. Great energy. Always with him. Hey, let's get you going though on this Friday with a check on the trading session. Let's turn things over to trade. All right. Thank you very much. And here's what's going on. The Dow the S&P Nasdaq we're all advancing right now. Uh stocks climbing in the run up to next week's FOMC decision. We got the CPI report this morning. Dow Jones Industrial Average up by 1.1%, certainly affecting sentiment today.

The decline in oil prices WTI 9958 a barrel back below 00. West Texas Intermediate crude down 2.8%. Barrel of Brent 104.34, drop there of 3.1%. Nasdaq up 308 points, now up 1.2%.

Um, we have been talking about counting down to the inflation prints. We got one yesterday. We did also get a key gauge of U.S. consumer prices, uh, this morning, rising by more than expected last month, bolstering the case for fed officials, Tim, to raise rates next week. Well, monetary markets see a fed hike. Will the money markets say see a fed hike next week is an almost done deal amid elevated inflation data, Treasury yields fell from multi-year highs.

As for inflation, white House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett doesn't seem all that worried. He joined Bloomberg this morning. If you look at the last three months, even with a slightly disappointing number of CPI is two. And so, uh, in the model that I would be using, I would say that you just about hit the target and inflation is decelerating. Now what the fed decides to do, maybe they decide they're going to do something that put risks on this side or that side.

It's up to them. Uh, but frankly, I think the inflation is clearly decelerating even with this slight uptick. Uh, this month, if you look at the three month average, uh, then you're basically hitting the core target. That, of course, was white House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett this morning on Bloomberg. Let's get into it. Let's talk uh that CPI print. Let's talk inflation overall. Let's talk rates.

Let's talk the fed with us to do that is our Jersey chief U.S. interest rate strategist at Bloomberg Intelligence. He's out there in our Princeton news bureau. Also with us right here in studio Bloomberg News macro strategist, uh, Frank monogram. And, of course, you know, he previously w
