Knew was what he wanted with Bloomberg News now. I'm Matt Piper. Stocks rose with the S&P rising 0.9 percent as equity buyers stepped in to halt a four day drop amid a decline in oil prices, tempering concerns about inflationary pressures. The Dow took in 509 points. The S&P was up 65, the Nasdaq up 251. Meantime, a key reading on consumer prices showed little progress toward the Fed's goal last month. But the market reaction suggests the data may induce fed tightening.

The upcoming fed decision next week looms larger, with August measures of core inflation coming in warmer than expected. And markets are waiting to see if the central bank will hike next week or hold steady. Brent has been holding steady around $105 a barrel, WTI at 100. But that could change soon. That's because Saudi Arabia has now closed its east west oil pipeline following multiple attacks a day ago. The Saudi Ministry of Energy says they shut it as a precautionary measure after the attacks caused several injuries.

The East west pipeline has proved to be a critical lifeline for Saudi Arabia's oil exports, which were disrupted by the war in Iran. The 7 million barrels a day route quickly reached full capacity after tanker traffic came to a near standstill in the Strait of Hormuz. Bloomberg News reporter Veena Ali Khan on Bloomberg Businessweek daily. This is an escalation. Yemen hasn't seen this much fighting since the height of the Yemeni war, which was 2018 2021.

We've seen an uneasy truce, fragile cheese between the Saudis and the Houthis since 2022. Um, but what we're seeing today is both, you know, the Houthis controlling the Bab and Madame Strait, which fits Iran's wider regional strategy. In light of the latest escalation with the U.S., but also the Houthis have their own very local demands from the Saudis. And this seems like the best time for them to gain as much land as they can.

Bloomberg reporter Veena Ali Khan on Bloomberg Businessweek daily. Oil prices were little changed after the ministry's statement that researcher Kevin Worse does face intense pressure to raise interest rates at next week's policy meeting after that highly anticipated inflation report. But National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett on Bloomberg Open Interest says inflation has been on the downswing over the last few months and if you go back three months, then core CPI was at 3.5%.

If you look at the last three months, even with a slightly disappointing number, core CPI is two. And so, uh, in the model that I would be using, I would say that you just about hit the target and inflation is decelerating. And on those $5,000 checks the president promised this week, one way that that could happen would be through a reconciliation process where because of all of the growth, that all of the wealth is being created in the U.S., you know, the president thinks that we need to return more of that to the American people.

And you could do that in a fiscally responsible way through a reconciliation process. And he's director Kevin Hassett on Bloomberg open interest. We checked the markets all day long here at Bloomberg, repeating the numbers at the close. The Dow took in 509 points. The S&P was up 65. The Nasdaq up 2.51. Bitcoin is trading at $77,400. The two year yield is up four basis points. The ten year yield is up one point. Treasury Secretary Scott Benson is dismissing concerns about the bond market after Thursday's smaller than expected debt buyback operations sent yields to multi-year highs.

Benson tells The War Room with Steve Bannon that the Treasury market is in good shape. Some of the Bloomberg Terminal bro's are unhappy with one of them doing well. That's too bad. And you know, I will tell you that we have we have the best performing bond market in the world. And if you look, bond yields have never been more correlated to the energy price. Treasury Secretary Scott Peasants, the U.S. is commemorating the 25th anniversary of the nine over 11 attacks that left nearly 3000 people dead and the nation shaken.

People laid wreaths, flew flags, read victims names and held moments of silence and vigils. Former presidents George W Bush, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden and current Vice President Vance were in lower Manhattan. President Trump attended a ceremony at the Pentagon. Today, we renew the sacred oath that we first saw in their names a quarter of a century ago. We will never, ever forget. Some family members of those killed used the ceremony to call on Trump, to hold Saudi Arabia accountable for its alleged complicity in the US's worst terror attack.

One saying, quote, for 25 years, administration after administration, including leaders in front of us here today, chose to protect the Saudis instead of standing with the nine over 11 families.
