U.S. Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are in Kyiv now for their first official visit to Ukraine to discuss ways to end its war with Russia. And they're talking to reporters now about those talks alongside President Volodymyr Zelensky. We came to see President Putin first. We needed to hear where he stood. We had good, concrete conversation with him, which we advised President Zelensky and his team about.

Both sides have to come to a resolution here. And my job and Jared's job together is to bring the parties together to narrow the issues between them, to create good communication channels. And hopefully we began that process, constructively in the last 48 hours. And we're confident that there'll be a good resolution here. The trio, along with Ukraine's negotiating team, are now meeting with top national security officials from the UK, Germany and France, who also traveled to Kiev for Sunday's talks.

Ukraine had expected the pair to visit back in April, but the trip was delayed as the White House's attention became consumed by the war in Iran and tit for tat hostilities continue in the Middle East this weekend, where Iran's aerospace force now claims it launched ballistic missiles at a US aircraft carrier and destroyer in retaliation for U.S. strikes on Iranian oil tankers. Dan Williams covers the Middle East for Bloomberg and says these latest strikes haven't been verified yet.
