Bloomberg Money Minute: US Stocks Rise as DOJ Expands Retail Beef Probe
This is a Bloomberg money minute. Brown-Forman, the Jack Daniels whiskey maker, saw profits beat estimates in the latest quarter despite continuing sales pressure in the U.S. and developed markets abroad. The company's profits were held by a 5% drop in advertising expenses. Brown-Forman is in the process of finding a successor to its current CEO, who will retire once someone is found. Shares are up over 4%, but the stock has lost around 60% of its value over the past three years.

The Justice Department is expanding an antitrust inquiry of the meatpacking industry by demanding info on surging beef prices from eight major food retailers, including Amazon, Costco, Walmart, Albertsons and Kroger. The DOJ wants to know about beef purchasing, retail pricing and profit margins, and more. For the past six years, just ahead of the closing Bell Markets, with a good day all in the green with the Dow see gains of close to 6/10 of a percent.
