Bloomberg Money Minute | US Companies Added 38K Jobs, Project B Adds Russell Westbrook as Co-Founder
This is a Bloomberg money minute. Private employers adding just 38,000 new workers in August short of the 47,000 forecast. And that's a modest number. It was the smallest increase since January. Now that hiring driven by education and health services, followed by leisure and hospitality, think bars and restaurants. The August jobs report is out on Friday. Despite two days of US attacks on targets in Iran this week and Iran saying the US struck a wedding ceremony yesterday, killing five.
Wall Street is higher today. Investors buying up stocks after those two days in a row of declines. The Dow, the Nasdaq and the S&P right now all up about 4/10 of 1%. And oil is slightly higher now close to $91 a barrel. That's the highest since June. And retired NBA star Russell Westbrook joining Project B. It's a startup trying to create a global basketball league that'll launch in January across Asia, Europe and the Americas, hosting men's and women's tournament.
