We can see the Iranians are trying to use the Strait of Hormuz as a choke point. It's not a choke point for the US, but it is a choke point for many many other countries. And, but, you know, that will be bypassed in two years. In two years, the Strait of Hormuz will be, like, a worthless piece of water as the the oil will be going on pipelines across land. US treasury secretary Scott Bessent there speaking on the sidelines of the G20 finance chiefs meeting.

East Asia government editor Jon Herskovitz here has the latest for us, and we've heard that potentially this could have done with been around Iran wanting to put more mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

What do we know about the latest rounds of attacks? Yeah. The US has escalated its round of strikes. The first strikes which got to start it were at two launchers, artillery rocket launchers, which are, were suspected of being able to place mines in Hormuz. The the latest attacks were broader. They hit more targets in a variety of regions, missile defense systems, radar systems, and it just showed an escalation on the US's part.

Language is a little bit different from US central command. Usually, in the previous round of these strikes, they said they were going after Iran's ability to interfere with commercial shipping. This time, it was just a broader round of strikes. Iran retaliated as well. But, you know, it's like the the risk is that we're going to go into this tit for tat strikes, can last for days and weeks. Yeah. Iran has changed its strategy.

It said that it's looking to a a longer range battle where it can go after its neighbors in the region. The first, wave that Iran goes after are US military assets. If Iran sees its infrastructure attacked, it will prob it's looking to go after infrastructure in the region of its neighbors, energy infrastructure, which could damage the economies of these regions and also just really affect global oil supplies. We have heard both from president Trump and also secretary Bessent recently on the economic onslaught that they would bring on Iran.
