This is a Bloomberg money minute. Federal Reserve Governor Michael Barr says the central bank should be prepared to raise interest rates if inflation fails to subside, Barr said in remarks prepared for an event in Washington. He says officials can afford to be patient if upcoming data provide some signal that inflation is cooling. Barr joins a group of fed officials who have said they need to see improvement in inflation in order to continue to hold rates.
The next fed policy meeting is on September 15th and 16th. Anthropic has agreed to a $35 billion computing deal with cloud provider Lambda, as part of an effort to quickly expand its artificial intelligence capacity. Lambda is a cloud provider backed by Nvidia. Anthropic has also signed other cloud deals, including agreeing to spend $45 billion with N scale and 50 billion with near cloud fluid stack. Markets are all in the red to start the trading day, with the Dow down around 2/10 of 1%.
