US Inflation Data Holds Steady, Meta Settles, General Mills Shift
This is a Bloomberg Money minute. Last month, the Fed's preferred measure of consumer prices rose 0.2% from June, as expected, but up 3.3% from a year ago, well above the Fed's longtime target of 2%. Data out today also showed U.S. consumer spending stalled in July after robust spending in May and June. Well, that disappointing data could bolster the case for the fed holding interest rates right where they are at its September meeting.

Instead of hiking rates as many feared to drive inflation lower. But still on Wall Street, stocks are lower this hour. The Dow and the Nasdaq down a quarter percent each. The S&P is pretty much flat. Shares of meta edging higher as investors get behind the proposed $16.7 billion settlement with multiple states that sued over teen addiction to social media. That deal still needs to get approved by a judge and General Mills, the maker of Lucky Charms tricks and other breakfast staples, announcing today all its cereals made in the US are now made without artificial or what they call certified colors.
