Let's take a look [music] at some stocks on the move today in Asia. I'm Steven Carroll. I'm joined by our equities reporter, Winnie Su, for more. Winnie, good morning. Let's start with SK Hynix. It's buyback yesterday [music] continuing to ripple through markets.

Yeah, exactly. That is quite a massive one. We're looking at $29 billion worth of a buyback that it announced yesterday evening. And that is really sending shares higher by about 11% right now. And that plus how it says that it's going to raise its shareholder return target to more than 50% of its cumulative free cash flow from 2025 to 2027. Now, that is actually better than expected because the previous target was just up to 50% versus now more than 50%.

So, investors are really excited about those two announcements because it's signaling to you that management is very confident in terms of the future growth of the company and that there is further cash returns that it's planning for its investors. And we're seeing, interestingly, a very similar move from Samsung Electronics with a report saying that the company is planning of a shareholder return plan of about $72 billion.

And that is also helping the shares there up nearly 10% as well.

Yeah, certainly really big move in those companies today. Let's go to Chinese internet firm Kuaishou next, plunging after their latest results. What happened?

Exactly. Well, that is, again, the latest example of the weakness in Chinese internet names. And we are seeing shares there down about 12% being one of the biggest underperformers in Asia today. Now, earnings second quarter profitability down 30% year-over-year as a company shifts to AI. So, it's highlighting how the high cost of developing AI AI centered business is really weighing on the company's income despite seeing a bit of a positive growth at its um Kling Moto model which is this AI text-to-video business that it has.

So, looking forward, it was also quite weak of a guidance for the next quarter expecting revenue dropping year-over-year for the first time ever. And we are seeing analysts cutting the target prices on the concerns around that weak macro environment plus the policy tightening when it comes to the e-commerce space. But, for sure we are closely watching out for other internet names and now we have Alibaba to report later today.

And you're also watching the healthcare sector in Asia today. This after the big moves that we saw in shares of Moderna and Merck yesterday on news of a late-stage trial in a skin cancer vaccine.

Yeah, that is almost one of the most exciting news I've heard recently and it is such a big moment for science and for just cancer treatment. So, this is a personalized vaccine co-developed by Moderna and Merck to reduce the recurrence of melanoma which is the most serious skin disease a skin cancer in a large late-stage trial and this is so such a breakthrough because scientists have been looking for this kind of personalized cancer vaccines for a century or so and this is the first time we are seeing a positive um late-stage trial for any mRNA-based cancer therapy.

And what it does is basically they can customize the vaccines based on the patient's specific tumor mutations. And that is such a breakthrough that we saw Moderna shares up 1 177% yesterday, and that's rippling into the vaccine names and biopharma names in Asia. The likes of Sinobiopharmaceuticals, for example, up more than 10% and the healthcare sector in Asia also up by about 3%. But the question here really is, okay, first of all, it has to be approved.

For now, we are looking at the timeline at 2027. Plus, is it going to be applicable to other cancers as well? So, how wide of um a treatment that can actually be offered to different types of tumors? Plus, the adoption rate, especially given this whole anti-vax movement that we are seeing uh globally right now. But at least [music] for now, it is a very significant moment um for this um [music] science space.
