This is a Bloomberg Money minute. Media platforms is headed to court today for a high stakes showdown with a coalition of state attorneys general over claims the company deliberately designed Facebook and Instagram to encourage compulsive use among young users. The trial carries enormous risk for meta, with potential penalties of as much as $1.4 trillion, and could have a material impact on the company's business and how its platform fundamentally operates.
Costco is planning to enter the Medicare market with a limited rollout of Costco branded Medicare plans in partnership with scan Group, a nonprofit insurer. That's according to The Wall Street Journal. The companies will start by selling Medicare Advantage products in two states and a Medicare supplement in a third, targeting around 5 million Medicare enrollees. The new Medicare products will integrate with Costco's offerings and be sold in Costco stores, but will not come with a Costco membership.
On Wall Street, stocks are lower, the Dow down a third of a percent. The Nasdaq down more than 1%. The S&P down more than a half percent. Erika Herskovitz Bloomberg.
