And we bring in the closing numbers each day here at Bloomberg. The S&P 500 lost 13 points. Nasdaq down 74 points. The Dow dropped 107 points. The ten year Treasury yield at 4.68%. The two year yield at 4.16%. The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index, at its lowest since May, down a quarter of a percent.

But first, Luigi Mangione has pled guilty to federal charges related to the fatal shooting of UnitedHealth Group CEO Brian Thompson. Mangione also faces a trial next month in New York state court, where he's charged with second degree murder and other crimes. Bloomberg legal analyst June Grasso, host of Bloomberg Law, explains today's plea could help Mangione avoid the state trial.

This is to get rid of the state case that's supposed to happen on September 8th. Whatever prison sentence you get will be served in a federal prison, which is preferable to state prison. You hope that you can get state charges dismissed. But as far as the federal case, it's over. It's in the history books. Bloomberg's Gene Grasso on Bloomberg Intelligence. Turning now to the Middle East. Treasury Secretary Scott Peasant tells Newsmax the U.S. will soon announce unprecedented economic measures against Iran.

Retired Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt says that's because military action alone can't finish the job. Shows yet again the fallacy of winning a war through air campaigns alone. There hasn't been an air campaign that's won a war since the airplane has come into the air. So I think what they're doing is turning up the knob on the economic sanctions, turning down the knob on the military a little bit while still trying to work the diplomatic simultaneously.

Retired Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt on balance of power. Crude oil moving higher. WTI crude oil topping $82 a barrel and Brent crude topping $88 a barrel. And President Trump says the USS Abraham Lincoln is on the move. He denies family members of the crew are concerned about the conditions on the ship, which has been at sea for more than 250 days. That ship is going to be higher than I think that ship is moving right now or very shortly, and it's being replaced with another very similar ship.

The USS George Washington is on its way to relieve the Lincoln as part of a scheduled Middle East deployment. When asked if that deployment had gone on too long, President Trump said not nearly long enough. A suspect accused of vandalizing the World War II memorial in Washington is in custody. U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, posted on social media that Melissa Faris faces two felony charges offenses that carry up to ten years in prison.

President Trump is taking his ballroom fight to the Supreme Court, the administration asking the High Court to allow the white House to resume construction on the $400 million ballroom project while it appeals a lower court order to stop the work. The court's majority says Trump doesn't have the unilateral authority to build a 90,000 square foot ballroom, where the White House's East wing once stood, before the president ordered that demolished.

A federal judge held the Trump administration may move forward with its plans to build a border wall along an indigenous tribes land. The judge found that the Tohono O'odham Nation is not likely to win on its claim that the Department of Homeland Security exceeded its legal powers by moving forward with the wall construction without the tribe's approval. The judge expects the government to consult with the tribe during the barrier planning process to address concerns.
