The Los Angeles Lakers are being sold to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger, former CEO of Walt Disney Company, for $12 billion. This is according to ESPN, and they're citing multiple sources. Um, this Iger Kushner group, um, pivoted to make an offer to the Lakers for Marc Walter, who purchased a controlling interest in the team last year. Let's get some more reporting on this. I was not really expecting this deal at all, but that's a big number for a lot of money.

It's ran away from the big numbers. I mean, Rand away. He's the business of sports. He knows what's going on out there. Right. Randall, talk to us about this deal with. I didn't know the Lakers were necessarily for sale, though. Before we begin, if you see me texting us because I'm learning details. Okay, uh, breaking breaking news, but it is it is absolutely huge news. It's a shock to the sports world to see a franchise like the Lakers turnover.

I believe they sold in 24. I don't think it was last year, but to see them turnover twice and add $2 billion in valuation is absolutely shocking. I've also confirmed that they are being bought, of course. Um, Joshua Kushner owns a stake in the Miami Heat as well that will need to be divested. And he also had an interest in NBA expansion, specifically in Las Vegas. That is obviously going to be abandoned now as well. What about.

Apparently Marc Walter owned the L.A. Lakers before now. Did he want to sell or is the number just really big? What happened? It's a bit unclear right now. I mean, I think there's a DOJ investigation into into Mark Walter. There was another report that I saw that had that said he had health issues as well, but it's unclear as to why Mark Walter, who just bought the Lakers for $10 billion, would flip this, uh, prized asset as quickly as he did.

He didn't make $2 billion. Yes he did. That's not a bad deal. That's a good trade. Um, where's the money coming from? 12 billion is a lot of cash. It's a good question. I mean, obviously, Joshua Kushner has, uh, money that I don't know about. Um, Bob Iger has made a pretty penny. You know, being the Walt Disney CEO. But the exact financing is to be determined. It's just that an agreement has been reached. The Board of Governors of the NBA still has to approve of this.

And so the financing is a bit unclear. But if they have if they say that they've struck a deal and there's no way that Mark Walter would sell to somebody who didn't have the cash, is what I'm trying to say. So it must have it.
