Last Friday, the leaders of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan signed a landmark defense pact called the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fedan said the efforts have been underway for 2 years and 8 months. Over the course of this period, there's been much talk about the increased cooperation between Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and also Egypt, although Egypt didn't sign up the pact last week.

More recently, Saudi Arabia has sought to form and lead a military coalition to protect shipping in the Red Sea.

At a meeting in Mecca, Islam's holiest city on Friday last week, Turkish President Reipta Erdogan, Pakistani Prime Minister Shabis Sharif, and Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman signed the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement.
