Bloomberg Money Minute: Oil Soars as Hormuz Closes
This is a Bloomberg Money Minute record show that Google co-founder Sergey Brin has now donated over $100 million to the Building a Better California organization fighting the proposed billionaires tax in that state. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed this Monday, and President Trump is now arguing with Tehran about compensating victims of the war on both sides. That means there is little hope that that waterway is going to reopen any time soon.
And with that, oil shot up 5% today, it closed just above $82 a barrel, with worries about overall inflation moving still higher. On Wall Street, stocks are low this hour. The Dow and the Nasdaq pulled down about a third of a percent, the S&P 500 down a very small fraction. The president also expected to sign an executive order recommending splitting up the popular MMR, or measles, mumps and rubella vaccine into three separate shots.
Now, the Infectious Disease Society of America says there is no benefit to separating that combination shot. Tom Busby Bloomberg.
