New interview of Jensen Huang: he just explained why Chinese open models are not "adversarial" to closed models and why DeepSeek/Kimi is good for the entire AI industry.

Axios questioned: "This Chinese competition is coming fast and furious. What should U.S. AI companies do?"

Jensen: "These Chinese models are excellent. The market misunderstood the impact of DeepSeek the first time, and it has misunderstood the impact of another Chinese model, Kimi, again this time.

First of all, great open AI models are good for the whole industry. When more high-quality AI becomes available, even if it is open-source and regardless of where it comes from, there will be more usage.

Whenever there is more usage, Nvidia will sell many more computers. We will have to build more data centres, offer more services, and the technology will spread into more industries.

That happened with DeepSeek, and it is going to happen with Kimi.

There is also a misunderstanding that open models could be adversarial to closed models. That is also incorrect.

The person most likely to upgrade to a great model from a company such as Anthropic or OpenAI is someone who already uses AI. They may want to use it more conveniently, access additional services from Anthropic or OpenAI, or use models that are simply much better, which I expect them to be.

Therefore, we should make sure that AI technology spreads into industries as quickly as possible and that as many people as possible begin using it. Open models, extremely inexpensive models, and easy ways to try AI are the best things we could have."
