It's a big responsibility to reconstruct a moment of Pelé's history. We want to make sure that we're telling a story in a way that respects and honors his legacy. To really convey how magical that goal was, you need to reproduce the action as closely as possible. We worked with local actors and film crew to recreate the goal. The key part of that is this Performance Control Model. So we're kind of doing that without having to put on the fancy suit. We take the input video, and then there's a model that produces these 3D blue-mesh renderings of the people. And then our model was trained to use that to transfer the motion. It just unlocks so many things. When you're using Gemini Omni to recreate a historical moment you want to make sure that everything is true to what actually happened. We needed to recreate the same conditions he had at the moment of the play In the same pitch, with the same uniforms and the same ball.

At the time, soccer balls were made out of leather. They were significantly heavier. When you add water to leather, it absorbs it and it gets even heavier. This ball was heavy.
