OpenAI just launched GPT-Live, a new generation of voice models now powering ChatGPT Voice.
The core shift is full-duplex. The model listens and speaks at the same time, so it can drop a quick “mhmm,” trade fast back-and-forth with you, or stay quiet while you think.
It also splits the conversation from the heavy lifting. When something needs search or deeper reasoning, GPT-Live hands off to a frontier model in the background (GPT-5.5 at launch) and keeps talking while it works.
Two versions, GPT-Live-1 and GPT-Live-1 mini, rolling out globally today. GPT-Live-1 is default for Go, Plus and Pro, mini for Free. You pick the reasoning depth: Instant, Medium or High. API coming soon.
