Marc Andreessen will join the Defense Policy Board at Pete Hegseth’s request.

This is not just another advisory appointment. It proofs something much larger: Silicon Valley, AI, defense tech, and U.S. national security strategy are moving even closer together.

Andreessen is not simply "close to AI." He represents the broader American Dynamism wing of tech: the view that software, chips, autonomy, AI, and industrial capacity are now core instruments of national power.

His appointment underscores how seriously the United States now treats AI as a strategic technology, not just for productivity or consumer apps, but for defense, deterrence, procurement, intelligence, and geopolitical competition.

It also puts Anthropic's earlier clash with the Department of Defense in a sharper light. Anthropic drew red lines around certain military uses of its models (because their ethics and moral commitments turned them into a supply-chain risk). But Washington’s direction of travel is becoming increasingly clear: frontier AI is being absorbed into the national-security state.

And companies that resist that logic may find themselves increasingly isolated from the center of U.S. strategic power.
