OpenAI is reportedly leaning toward delaying its IPO until next year - instead of this year.
The company had hired bankers and lawyers for a possible public offering as soon as Q3 or Q4 this year.
Sam Altman reportedly pushed advisers to find a path to a $1 trillion valuation.
According to the NYT, advisers have warned OpenAI that retail investors may not have the same appetite after SpaceX’s volatile post-IPO trading and a broader pullback in tech stocks.
The numbers are interesting:
• OpenAI reportedly generated about $13B in revenue in 2025 • it says it is now making $2B per month • it hopes to roughly triple revenue this year • but it is still pouring huge amounts into data centers, compute, hiring and marketing
At the same time, ChatGPT app growth has slowed around 900M users, Anthropic is gaining enterprise traction with Claude Code, and Google Gemini is becoming a stronger consumer product.
