Vance Delays Swiss Trip for Iran Talks
That's not about tolling. That's about ensuring that the Straits are never used as a choke point for the global economy ever again. It's frankly not what the Iranians want. It's not what the Omanis want. It's not what the GCC wants either. So what we're gonna do, of course, working with our allies in the region, is to ensure that that is reflected in the final deal. And if that's not reflected in the final deal, there's not gonna be a final deal. Let's get more now with our Bloomberg Horizon's Middle East and Africa anchor Abeer Abu Omar. Abeer, good morning. So Vans there no longer going to Switzerland for face to face talks with Tehran. How significant is the delay?
What should we read into it?Good morning, Lizzy. Reuters reporting just now a couple of minutes ago that the talks, as a matter of fact, in Switzerland are not going to be taking place. They're citing a Swiss government official there. I'm not sure how much we should read into this. Now bear in mind that the MOU was signed by president Trump in the Palace Of Versailles a couple of days ago, and The Strait Of Hormuz is now open to movement, slightly open to movement. We're seeing a trickle of traffic back to the waterway with some Saudi tanker supertankers coming back. We're seeing Kuwaiti tankers making their way back, and and LNG laden tankers from Qatar's side also coming back to the waterway. Both Iran and The United States had said that, the the Strait Of Hormuz is open for business. The US central command said, that it's lifted its naval blockade. Iran said that the southern ports are functional at the time being, and you're seeing oil prices reacting to this. But I was just before I was coming on with you looking at these headlines from Reuters and then the reaction in Brent crude, and you're seeing an uptick slightly. Still no further details about why those stocks are not taking place, but we're just bearing in mind that there is still a lot of uncertainties to this MOU, Lizzy. One big part of that is the Strait Of Hormuz, how fast movement is going to come back, and then the other is taking part in all of this is Israel and its actions in Southern Lebanon. And, again, a couple of minutes before I came on with you, we saw these headlines about the IDF striking targets in Lebanon. So that continues to happen despite the fact that Lebanon is a part, an explicit part in the MOU that we got ahold of that says that for the negotiations, the wider negotiations to take place, the hostilities against Lebanon have to seize, some conflict between Israeli officials in, Tel Aviv and JD Vance with JD Vance, the vice president of The United States, telling Israeli officials that The US is their only friend at the time being and Israeli officials opposing any end to hostilities in Lebanon. So we wait to see, again, some murky, some murky details are starting to emerge. Again, we'll have to read a little bit more into what the delay in JD Vance or what the no going of JD Vance according to the Reuters report means for this, MOU.
