US approves faster grid connections for data centers.

The plan lets PJM review up to 10 projects a year, but only projects of at least 250MW qualify, i.e. this is aimed at big power plants, not small local upgrades.

The bottleneck is interconnection, the slow engineering and approval process that decides whether a new generator can safely plug into the grid without overloading wires, transformers, or protection systems.

PJM says the threat is a possible 60GW shortfall over the next decade, and the pressure is coming from data centers that need steady electricity for servers, cooling, networking, and backup systems.

The new track runs from July-26 through 2027, and selected projects are supposed to get grid agreements within 10 months and start operating within 3 years.
